GUS Canada and TECHNATION Canada Partner to Boost Career Readiness
Global University Systems (GUS) Canada has announced an exciting partnership with TECHNATION Canada to enhance career readiness for Canadian students. This collaboration connects GUS students to TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program, a key initiative of the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP). This partnership provides students from GUS Canada’s institutional brands, including The University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF), University Canada West (UCW), Toronto School of Management (TSoM), Canadian College of Technology and Business (CCTB), and Trebas Institute, with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in their fields of study through paid placements, paving the way for professional success.
Empowering Students through Work-Integrated Learning
The Career Ready Program is a strategic investment for companies, as it subsidizes the cost of employing students for work placements. This program provides employers with wage subsidies and offers students practical experience, effectively bridging the gap between academic studies and the job market. The enhancement of student employability is a long-term benefit of the program, reassuring employers about the quality of the future workforce.
In addition to these placements, the program also leverages key tools like CareerFinder, LaunchPad and SkillPassport. These tools provide practical labour market insights and educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in Canada’s tech sector. The program also offers a range of free events, such as speaker series, student challenges, and hackathons, which are designed to prepare students for their future careers in tech-related fields.
Building a Future-Ready Workforce
Diana Mockute, Chief Partnership Officer at GUS Canada, remarked, “This partnership represents a significant step forward in offering students meaningful work-integrated learning experiences and preparing them for successful careers.”
Echoing this sentiment, Heather-Anne McGilvary, Executive Director at TECHNATION, added in their recent press release, “Together, we’re empowering students with paid, tech-meaningful work placements, ensuring they graduate with the high-demand skills that employers seek, creating a seamless transition into professional careers.”
This partnership is poised to impact hundreds of students, helping them gain valuable work experience and preparing them for a successful future in Canada’s technology sector.
