Global University Systems Canada (GUS Canada) and SpacesShared have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help tackle student housing concerns by launching the innovative homesharing platform, SpacesShared, at GUS Canada Colleges in Toronto, University of Canada West in Vancouver and the new University of Niagara Falls in Niagara Falls for students at GUS Canada’s institutions.
GUS Canada is part of an international network of higher-education institutions which share a passion for accessible, industry-relevant qualifications for students. SpacesShared is an intergenerational homesharing platform that pairs students seeking cost-effective housing with older adults who have spare rooms available.
This new partnership will help students access safe and affordable housing near their campuses, as well as support older adults with aging in place. Through the program, older adults can receive assistance with light chores around the house in exchange for reduced monthly rent for students.
“We are pleased to be working together to help students find housing,” said Glenn Craney, Chief Operating Officer for GUS Canada. “The MoU helps structure the partnership between GUS Canada and SpacesShared, sets the framework for launching the SpacesShared platform in Toronto, Vancouver and Niagara Falls, and will help create a housing community for students. We want to encourage older adults to take a look at the platform and see if it’s a good fit for them.”
The partnership demonstrates the commitment shared by GUS Canada and SpacesShared to seamlessly integrate their services to support communities and students. Working together, they will help create a culture of inclusivity and support, which is crucial for students’ long-term academic and personal growth while creating meaningful solutions to immediate real-world challenges.
