GUS Canada’s recent expedition to China marked a series of successful engagements and new partnerships to enhance educational opportunities for international students. The trip focused on establishing and strengthening ties with various educational institutions across China, led by CEO Cyndi McLeod and GUS Canada executive team members.
Highlights of the Trip
The journey commenced on July 16, 2024, with significant discussions at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and Pacican Academy. The GUS Canada team explored possibilities for academy graduates to join partnership universities in Canada, setting a positive tone for the rest of the expedition.
The same day, discussions were held with Huatong International Education Corporation about potential partnerships, underlining GUS Canada’s commitment to broadening its international influence and student base.
On July 22, a pivotal meeting took place with the Chairman of EduChina and the Vice Principal of EduChina’s Beijing Campus. Discussions centred on introducing GUS Med and Vet programs to Chinese students and participating in the North American Vocational Education Expo. This meeting also touched on introducing international vocational certificates in China, reflecting a comprehensive approach to educational collaboration.
A visit to BCCSC and CISB campuses followed, culminating in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony with CanGlory Canada and AKD China on the CISB campus.
The following day, the GUS Canada team met with key figures in Zhengzhou, including the President of Central International Education Group and other prominent officials, to discuss collaborative opportunities.
The trip concluded with a significant meeting on July 24 with Dr. Proper from IAU and Sophie Zhang from China University of Mining and Technology. This meeting discussed plans for sending 30 students to engage in a 3+1 educational model, minimizing transfer risk, and ensuring successful outcomes for students who study abroad.
Strategic Partnerships Formed
Throughout the event-filled trip, additional agreements were inked, each heralding new educational frameworks:
- Tianjin Bohai Vocational School: This MOU includes teacher training programs and scholarships for students, emphasizing GUS Canada’s investment in educational excellence and opportunity.
- Tianjin Transportation Technical College: Initiatives from this partnership include teacher training and free language training for TTTC’s faculty, showcasing a commitment to enhancing educational capabilities through shared resources.
- Tianjin Modern Vocational and Technology College: This collaboration focuses on developing short-term training programs and joint educational projects, highlighting a dynamic approach to international education.
- AKD Education Consulting: A pathway articulation agreement was established to create academic pathways for IB and AP students, enhancing their transition into specialized programs at GUS Canada institutions.
These collaborative agreements reinforce GUS Canada’s proactive approach to shaping global education landscapes and providing unparalleled opportunities for students and educators.
